Ballina in Co Mayo is to host its inaugural Samhain Abhainn festival, a three-day event to mark Halloween later this month.

Mayo AC have just announced the launch of their new website www.mayoac.com. The website will feature information on all aspects of the club’s activities and is a welcome addition as the club expands on all fronts. Club chairman Michael Mc Grath pointed out that, while the website has been online for some time, recently it has received a major revamp thanks mainly to the great work done by club website coordinators TJ Mc Hugh, Catherine Conway, and others.

The 'Terry Fox' run takes place annually at venues all over the world in support of the Terry Fox Foundation which raises funds for Cancer Research in memory of a brave young Canadian. Terry Fox was diagnosed with bone cancer at the age of 18, and had to have his right leg amputated above the knee in 1977. While in hospital , Terry was so overcome by the suffering of other cancer patients, many of them young children, that he decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. The legacy of this heroic Canadian is that, to date, more than $400 million has been raised worldwide in his name.

The responsibility for the control and operation of the River Moy harbour in Ballina has been formally transferred from the harbour authority to Mayo County Council, announced Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary.
